Kaleba speaks at the UN 62nd Commission
April 19, 2018United States Delegation to the Democratic Republic of Congo
May 17, 2018Women’s History month and HEAR Congo women making a difference in rural DRC
The women who work at HEAR Congo come from backgrounds as diverse as local cities, distant cities, and rural regions. What they share is a determination to see all our women and girls succeed. Mama Jacky, for example, who is in charge of the maintenance at the Centre de PromotionSociale de Tenke, labors day and night to make certain no classes are disrupted by mechanical issues. Sylvie, who oversees the education program and the two female instructors, Gracia and Odette usually work very closely with each beneficiary and they make it a mission to see them succeed. A regional coordinator in Lubumbashi, Florence, makes monthly trips to Tenke to make sure of the center’s efficiency and to keep all our programs on schedule. In Kinshasa, Francoise, HEAR Congo’s program manager juggles administrative duties with the work needed in rural Kimbaseke. In the rainy season, she walks more than two miles to the project site in ceaseless downpours.
They each serve our beneficiaries in very special ways. We salute their efforts and celebrate their commitment as they change lives at the grassroots levels in rural DRC.
